Reduce Your Risk of Diabetes with Extra Support Through the Holiday Season

Published November 11, 2021

Commit to a healthier lifestyle and receive extra support through the busy and often calorie-laden holiday season when you register for Omada. Omada is a digital lifestyle program that helps you make changes to habits around food, exercise, sleep and stress, to help lower your risk of diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

The focus of this year’s diabetes awareness campaign is on pre-diabetes and prevention. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 10.5% of Americans are living with a form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of the disease, affecting between 90% to 95% of people with diabetes. In fact, the CDC says more than 1 in 3 Americans – approximately 88 million – are pre-diabetic and the majority don’t know it.

Type 2 diabetes can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle and by making small changes, and it’s possible to prevent type 2 diabetes and even reverse your prediabetes.

Omada can help

The Omada program is available free of charge for two years* to SchoolCare members 18 and older who are at risk of diabetes and heart disease. The program helps build and sustain healthy habits that last beyond the 16-week program.

Tools to help participants through the Omada program include:

  • Data-driven health coaching
  • A wireless scale that links to your personal online account
  • Lessons and games that teach about important health topics
  • An online community of peer support

You can stay on track with a healthier lifestyle through the holidays (and earn cash incentives through the Good For You! Well-Being Program) with either telephonic or online health coaching. Each program provides opportunities to set lifestyle goals around healthy eating, exercise, improving sleep and more. Read more about these programs in this article from last month’s newsletter.

*If you’ve previously participated in the Omada program for your two years covered through SchoolCare, but would like to participate again, it is available through a self-pay option. Learn more here.
