The Pulse of SchoolCare, September 2020

Keep calm and know where to go

Published September 1, 2020

We have all been there. You are feeling unwell but aren’t sure if you should make an appointment with your doctor. Or maybe it’s late at night when your doctor’s office is closed, and your child has a fever. Being confident in your care options is an important part of managing your health and feeling safe. This involves knowing where to go for appropriate care when you are feeling under the weather.

What are your care options?

As a SchoolCare/Cigna medical participant, you and your covered family members have multiple options for receiving care:

  • Telehealth at myCigna.com via MDLive (lowest cost option available 24/7 for minor medical conditions)
  • Doctor’s office visits (best for routine preventive care)
  • Urgent Care facilities (For non-life-threatening conditions)
  • Emergency rooms (For critical injuries or illnesses)

When should you choose Telehealth?

Virtual care is a great way to connect with a provider from the comfort and safety of home using your phone, tablet, or computer. Additionally, you may be able to save time and money compared to visiting urgent care or the emergency room. However, you will want to be sure you understand the best times to use virtual care. Use the Cigna Know Before You Go flyer as your guide for receiving health care this plan year:
