“Mental health awareness plays a crucial role in reducing stigma, encouraging early intervention, fostering empathy, and understanding. By normalizing conversations around mental health, it nurtures a more compassionate society where individuals feel empowered to seek help, leading to improved mental wellbeing.” -National Institute of Mental Wellbeing
The month of May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month – a time to raise awareness, promote understanding around mental health challenges and remove the stigma attached to mental health.
As SchoolCare/Cigna participant, you have a robust offering of mental health support and services both in-person and online. Below are a number of resources included as part of your health benefits.
Cigna's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available 24/7/365 for you and your household members, at no cost to you. "Licensed clinicians can help you learn how to manage stress, address depression and anxiety, cope with illness, and adjust to life challenges. Get referrals to licensed therapists for in-person or virtual short-term counseling." Get started by logging into myCigna.com and clicking on Employee Assistance Program under the "Coverage" menu. Or call 1-877-622-4327 and use Employer ID "SchoolCare" when prompted.
Here are some more easy ways to use your EAP program to support your mental health needs:
EAP Fun Fact from Cigna: "The EAP offers more than individual counseling or crisis support. We also offer Work/Life services because we know that there are many factors that impact your mental health and wellbeing. You may be asking, 'What are work/life services?' Great Question! Work/life services offer support in a variety of areas that make up your day to day or topics you may find yourself 'Googling' to get information on. For example, are you interested in finding a caregiver for a loved one? A new daycare for your four legged-furry friend? Or, are you starting a family and trying to figure out where to start with creating a will? Work/life services are accessible at www.mycigna.com or by calling your EAP number and talking to a Personal Advocate."
Cigna is available to help when you are trying to figure out how to take the first step when seeking help for your unique mental and behavioral health needs. Whether searching for an in-person or virtual provider, Cigna offers a robust provider directory to help you locate a provider who can meet your specific needs, has experience in unique specializations such as Autism or PTSD, is a preferred gender, or is an expert in LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and/or First Responder needs, plus so much more. Go to www.mycigna.com and click on "Find Care and Costs" to start your search.
Do you need support, but you're not sure what exactly you are looking for? Click on the counseling option on the Find Care and Costs page and follow the prompts to identify your needs and get recommendations for in-person or virtual care options.
