Eating a balanced diet with nutrient-rich, whole foods is essential for many reasons, including reducing the risk of chronic disease, supporting a healthy weight, promoting strong bones and muscles, improving immune function, and maintaining healthy blood pressure. By providing the essential nutrients the body needs, healthy eating supports every system and enhances overall well-being, energy, and mental health (check out this “Foods to Boost Your Mood” flyer from Cigna).
A nutrient-dense diet is one of the most powerful tools for maintaining health and longevity.
However, for many people, knowing what to eat and how much can be confusing. Additionally, accessing or affording the right foods to feel their best may be challenging. As a SchoolCare/Cigna participant, you have access to several benefits to help you on your path to healthier eating.
Your SchoolCare/Cigna health plan covers consultations with in-network nutritionists, registered dietitians, and naturopathic doctors, just like visits to physicians or mental health providers. These appointments are subject to your plan’s in-network cost share, and no referral is required. To find a provider, log in to myCigna, click “Find Care & Costs,” and search “Doctor by Type,” or look for a specific provider.
Additionally, you can access a virtual dietitian through Cigna’s partnership with Foodsmart. Sign up at no out-of-pocket cost to meet with a dietitian who will help create a personalized nutrition plan based on your health history, preferences, budget, and goals. You can connect virtually or over the phone.
As a SchoolCare/Cigna participant, you can also receive personalized one-on-one support from a Cigna Health Advocate at no out-of-pocket cost. This phone-based coaching is available for anyone seeking guidance on healthy eating, exercise, managing medical issues, smoking cessation, and more. If your goal is healthier eating, your coach will help you develop a plan, track progress, and adjust as needed. You can earn up to $150 per year in Good For You! Well-Being Program incentives for making progress toward or completing your health goals. To get started, call 800-244-6224 or learn more about telephonic coaching.
This free, four-week program helps you create a healthy eating plan and add nutritious foods to your plate. Log in daily or every couple of days to track your progress. Upon completion, you’ll earn a $50 Good For You! Well-Being Program incentive. If you fall off track, you can restart the program at any time.
To get started, log into myCigna or the Cigna mobile app, click on “Wellness,” select the “Food” tile, and tap “Let’s go” under the “Online Coaching – Balance Your Diet” option. Learn more about online coaching here.
If you're at risk for or living with diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension, you may qualify for the Omada program. This program offers one-on-one support to help you build and maintain healthy routines around nutrition, sleep and stress and provides personalized one-on-one support and smart devices to help you on your journey. Participating in Omada comes at no out-of-pocket expense and you can earn incentive rewards as part of the Good For You! Well-Being program for completing 16 weeks of the program and/or losing 5% of your starting weight.
