Preventive care is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect our long-term health, yet it’s often the most overlooked. Routine checkups, screenings, and wellness visits can catch potential issues early, reduce the risk of serious illness, and ultimately save time, stress, and money. Still, many people struggle to take full advantage of their preventive care benefits due to barriers like busy schedules, uncertainty about what’s covered, fear of medical visits, or difficulty accessing care.
Learn more about your preventive care benefits as a SchoolCare/Cigna participant, and how you can earn Wellness Cash incentives through the Good For You! Well-Being Program for being proactive about your health and making
Keep up with annual physicals or well-woman visits and discuss any health concerns, vaccinations, blood work, and cancer screenings with your provider. If you don’t have a primary care provider (PCP), use the Find Care and Costs tool in your myCigna portal to search for one near you.
The provider directory allows you to search by location, read ratings and reviews, sort on doctors accepting new patients and, in some cases, see how quickly you can be seen. If access to in-person visits is difficult, you can schedule a virtual wellness screening with MDLIVE. Board-certified physicians are available outside of normal office hours, offering a convenient, cost-effective option for preventive care. MDLIVE preventive care appointments are also covered at no out-of-pocket cost to you.
Additionally, MDLIVE provides options for virtual urgent care, behavioral health support and dermatology, with co-pays or co-insurance similar to in office visits, but with the convenience of getting care from home.
Wellness Cash Opportunity:
If you’re due for cancer screenings, talk to your provider about which ones you need based on your age and personal or family history. Early detection through regular screenings can improve treatment outcomes and reduce costs.
* If your incentives haven’t been awarded within three a month of your claim being processed, contact Cigna at 800-244-6224 to inquire. You can earn Wellness Cash for up to five preventive screenings (annual physical, cancer screenings and flu shot) per year.
A biometric screening isn’t a substitute for a physical exam but can help identify potential health risks. You can self-register for your appointment ahead of a wellness screening with MDLIVE or get an order from your PCP to complete it as part of your annual physical.
Annual eye and dental exams are also important aspects of your preventive care.
Visiting your eye doctor regularly can help screen for silent eye diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts early, before symptoms appear, allowing treatment before permanent impact to your vision. Eye exams can even help catch health issues like diabetes and hypertension. Even if you don’t wear corrective lenses, regular screenings are important and covered by your SchoolCare/Cigna insurance.
Likewise, routine dental care is a vital part of maintaining your health. Seeing your dentist at least annually for an exam and a couple times a year for routine cleanings can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease and detect oral cancers and other health problems early, when they are easier to treat. Oral bacteria can also cause conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory infections, making routine cleanings are important.
Cash incentives, payments, and rewards are available upon completion of the Health Assessment annually. Amounts paid to well-being program participants are taxable income. Please review with your tax consultant for more information.
